In Germany children are encouraged to polish their shoes, or boots, the day before Saint Nicholas (December, 6). He might pass overnight and leave something sweet for the good children, and a piece or coal for the naughty ones.
In our case we are happy to have received some nuts, tangerines and sweets.
In December waiting for Christmas Eve can be very very hard for children, so they have a little something already today.
Naturally, growing up, they pull out largest pair of shoes or the highest boots they have 😀
